Claremont contrasts the natural and artificial worlds, often times blurring the lines between the two, a juxtaposition synonymous with his winning work. His unique talent in capturing the simplicity of a subject whilst simultaneously commentating on its inner fragility and beauty continues to resonate with audiences and critics alike.
According to Andrea Fleming, Chief Executive Officer of the Mission to Seafarers Victoria, “the diversity of the exhibited works and reoccurring theme ‘the relationship between humanity and the sea’, conveys the importance of the ongoing work of the Mission while showcasing the art genre.”
Since 2002 the Mission to Seafarers Victoria maritime art prize has exhibited the work of over 700 artists and is Australia’s leading maritime art award. Prize money awarded to date has exceeded $150,000 and the organisation has raised over $200,000 toward the provision of seafarers’ welfare services in Victoria. It has continuously promoted and celebrated excellence in maritime and seafaring subjects in art and assists in raising the profile of merchant seafarers, responsible for transporting more than 90 percent of world trade.

Artists have generously submitted their artwork for sale and 33% of all proceeds raised will go towards the charitable work of the Mission to Seafarers.
The exhibition is open daily, 12-6pm for public viewing from 7 to 27 November, 2015 at the historic seafarers’ centre at DOME Gallery 717 Flinders Street, Docklands Melbourne.
