The Manningham Victorian Ceramic Art Award was first established and developed in 2009 by Manningham Council to support Victorian Studio Ceramics and acknowledge the importance of ceramics in the region. The award recognises excellence in the field of studio ceramics and surveys the full scope from functional ware through to sculptural and conceptual works.
This year’s award offers a major prize of $8,000 and a general acquisitions and Valley of the Arts Award acquisitions pool of $6,000. The accompanying exhibition of finalists’ work surveys contemporary studio ceramics from across Victoria, whilst also celebrating the important place of ceramics in the Manningham region.
This year’s award is being judged by Robert Reason, Curator of European and Australian Decorative Arts at the Art Gallery of South Australia. Amongst the many exhibitions of his that have featured ceramics, the 2006 Gladys Reynell retrospective and accompanying monograph was a highlight. Widely published in craft and design, Robert also lectures in Art History for the University of Adelaide.
Award winners to be announced at the exhibition opening on Wednesday 15 July, 6-8pm at Manningham Art Gallery.
