The Marie Ellis OAM Prize for Drawing, now in it’s sixth year, is recognised nationwide and aims to encourage excellence in drawing. This prize was established in 2009 in memory of Marie Corella Ellis (1918-2003), who was an important member of the inner-Brisbane community for her work with handicapped children through the Girl Guide Association of Queensland, for which she earned an Order of Australia Medal in 1979.
This year over 200 entries were submitted, the most artworks entered since the Awards’ first year. Each year the judges select 25 artists as finalists for the exhibition and who are in the running for: the Major Prize of $4000 in acquisitive prizes, the Honourable Mention awarded to the value of $500, and the People’s Choice Award. The 2015 judging panel includes: Jeff Hopkins-Weise, Randal Breen, Carolyn McKenzie-Craig (2014 Major Prize Winner) and Russell Craig.
