The Calleen Art Award is an acquisitive prize for painting in any subject and style established in 1977 by Mrs Patricia Fagan OAM. This year the Cowra Regional Art Gallery received 275 entries from across Australia with 49 works were selected as finalists by a panel of art professionals with the winner determined by judge Angus Trumble, Director of the National Portrait Gallery.

The 2017 Callen Art Award and $20,000 in prize money was awarded to Melbourne-based artist Zai Kuang for his painting titled, Audery (2016).

“My paintings are about children and daily life. I want to explore the relationships between children and their surroundings and the objects in the domestic environment.”Zai Kuang
