Drawn to materials that are weathered and worn, Canberra-based artist Alex Asch continues to construct his unique sculptures using found and recycled materials. To the artist, these discarded materials reveal remnants of a past life and are often altered or marked by tools and fittings as well as the weather.
The houses of Alex’s childhood in America continue to play a central role in this work and in this new series they become more shrine-like with increased totemic elements. Alex Asch moved to Australia in 1988 to study art at the Australian National University. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Australia and overseas.
