The ‘Ballarat International Foto Biennale’ (BIFB) returns for its sixth festival cementing its spot as Australia’s most prominent festival of photography.
It all started back in 2005 when Daylesford-based photographer and lecturer Jeff Moorfoot created a festival to celebrate photography in all its forms. Along the journey, and ten years on, it has grown to become an important event in the international calendar.
Held every two years ‘BIFB’ presents two major exhibitions. The first is the BIFB Core Program, which is a curated exhibition of 21 of the world’s leading photographic artists. It focuses on new work and a diverse curatorial approach to cover all genres of photography from reportage to fine art.
The second component is the BIFB Fringe Program, which provides a spotlight on photographers of all levels and allows them to show along side of, learn from, and be inspired by some of the best photographic talent from around the world. This year’s festival sees international names like Argentina’s Alejandro Chaskielberg, Germany’s Jurgen Scriba, France’s Nicholas Dhervillers and China’s Xiangliang Pang, alongside local talent of Amber McCraig, Ben Wrigley, Stephen Dupont and Richard Millot.
As well as the exhibitions there are workshops, seminars, audiovisual projections, master classes, artist talks, portfolio reviews and photographic competitions.
