Border Crossings

‘Border Crossings’ brings together curators Mary Knights and Michelle Browne, and contemporary artists from Ireland and Australia to investigate cross-cultural issues surrounding ethnic conflict, the legacy of colonialism and the challenges of reconciliation that are relevant to both countries. Artists include: Michelle Browne, Julie Gough, Sandra Johnston, Sue Kneebone, Yhonnie Scarce and Dominic Thorpe.

Drawing on personal experience, family histories, archival and field research, the artists have interrogated the curatorial premise from a wide range of perspectives and presented work that is at once challenging, powerful, poetic and whimsical. To facilitate cross-cultural dialogue and debate, the exhibition and associated events have been developed as a series of interrelated platforms that are being staged in Australia and Ireland.
