Bundanon Trust have unveiled the list of artists accepted into their 2017 residency program, alongside several new partnerships providing yet more opportunities for artists. This included the announcement of Mace Francis as next year’s Prelude composer in residence at Gallop House in Perth.
Bundanon manages Australia’s largest artist residency program with over 300 artists and thinkers from all disciplines staying at the purpose-built Shoalhaven properties each year. Individuals, groups and companies from across the world find the time spent at Bundanon invaluable to their creative and professional development.
For 2017 there are several international exchange opportunities including a brand new exchange with Beijing through Red Gate Gallery, recognised both as a tour de force and trail blazer in the history and development of the contemporary Chinese art scene. Bundanon is also planning to continue sharing the uniquely Australian scenery of the Shoalhaven with French and African artists through continuing partnerships with the French Government and the Africa Centre, South Africa.
New partnerships this year include Moogahlin Performing Arts, Snuff Puppets and Word Travels. Emerging artists will be supported through new alliances with Melbourne’s Next Wave Festival, Underbelly Arts, and The New Plot (107 Projects) to add to the ongoing relationship with Australian Theatre for Young People.
“It’s fabulous to see so many new partnerships coming to fruition this year,” said Bundanon Trust CEO Deborah Ely. “Since 1998 Bundanon has been host to thousands of residencies, touching almost everyone in Australia’s contemporary arts landscape. 2017 is shaping up to be a very busy and very exciting year indeed.”
A newly completed specialist studio for silversmithing has been created at Bundanon through a bequest from artists Stephanie and Mikala Dwyer. Honouring their mother, the acclaimed silversmith Dorothy Dwyer, the new studio will host artists working with silver and gold from 2017.
Bundanon also has the honour of announcing Mace Francis, celebrated composer, performer, and academic as the inaugural composer under Catalyst funding in residence at Gallop House in Perth under the newly established Prelude program. Building on the success of Peggy Glanville-Hicks House, Prelude makes composer residency opportunities available across the country and is made possible through the commitment of many partners: the Australia Council, the Peggy-Glanville Hicks Composers’ Trust, Catalyst – Australian Arts and Culture Fund, the National Trusts of Australia, the National Trust WA and APRA/AMCOS.
