‘Rare Sightings’ features an impressive exhibition of paintings by Daniel Moynihan that are rich and complex in their gestation and development.
Moynihan weaves fertile elements of research, memories, experiences and ideas to create his enigmatic visions. The subjects of these rare sightings are hybrid forms that belie their origins in Moynihan’s early admiration of Flemish 14th century painting, studies of field naturalism, intense research into the history and treatment of the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) and lasting impressions of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Richard III. – Associate Professor Jennifer Jones-O’Neill
