The Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation welcomes you to join in celebrating it’s 8th year. The fair will run from the 8th -10 August and will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre.
The fair will host more than forty Art Centres from across Australia which will represent over 1800 Indigenous artists. This exciting event encourages all guests to explore the engaging work on display from a long list of emerging and established artists. The public and arts industry buyers are invited to speak with artists and make purchases directly from Indigenous owned and incorporated Art Centres. People are able to discuss with artists their work, the motives behind their practice and learn from their cultural experiences. Guests can participate in public forums, workshops, and artist demonstrations which teach of traditional cultural practices.
There is a wide range of artistic mediums on show. These include, paintings on canvas, bark paintings, works on paper including limited edition prints, sculpture, didgeridoos, fibre art and cultural regalia. Visitors can view each piece up close allowing an in depth look into the detail needed to create the final result.
The inaugural Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair was first held in 2007 and hosted sixteen Aboriginal-owned incorporated Art Centers. Since the initial starting date, the fair has dramatically grown and was strongly recognized as a significant and influential event that plays an important role within society.
Each year, the fair generates a wider range of interested people who enjoy observing work that attributes to great heritage while also seeing contrasting contemporary artwork that holds modern day influences. Sales and funding have increased and due to continued keen interest, participation figures are limited only by the Foundation’s financial capacity to provide a venue to accommodate enough booths.
Become apart of this growing cultural experience and make sure to see the other events which coincide with the fair. These include the 31st National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards, the National Indigenous Music Awards and the Darwin Festival.
