Dawn Ng’s practice explores time, memory, and the ephemeral. For Avalanche, the Singaporean artist crafted pigmented ice blocks, then filmed them melting away.
Using time lapse, Ng compressed hours of real time into minutes of screen time. The effect – even sped up – remains meditative. Ng fast tracks glacial decay while evoking calming waterfalls and collapsing ice shelves, manipulating our sense of space and time. Portraying the fluidity of time as a “riot of colours” that swell and ebb, forming rivers and pools, Ng turns entropy into eye candy.
