Eliya Nikki Cohen’s video and photography work allows viewers to experience the processes by which we understand the concept of ‘nature’ and rethink our presence within it.
‘Love Eyes’ features a three-channel immersive video installation of the same name, which presents people in natural environments which are at once dreamlike and hyperreal. There is a profound intimacy between both artist and subject, and subject and environment. Cohen heightens our awareness of this intimacy through the warm and soft light that pervades the video footage. The reflections and tides of water feature prominently – figures bathe naked in rivers and play under waterfalls. The viewer is afforded their own experience of nature within the confines of the gallery space.
