Francis Upritchard: Jealous Saboteurs

Francis Upritchard: Jealous Saboteurs
Edited by Charlotte Day and Robert Leonard
Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne and City Gallery, Wellington

New text by Deborah Levy, Megan Dunn, Tessa Laird and Robert Leonard give voice to form through passages of internalised Gen-X emotion. Previously published material by Hari Kunzru, David Mitchell and Ali Smith are also included, along with a casual interview by Brian Griffiths where Upritchard discusses her practice; the use of bodily gags like “stiffies” and inspirations such as PJ Harvey and Scooby Doo.

Published to complement ‘Jealous Saboteurs’, an exhibition surveying 20 years of work by New Zealand-born, London-based artist Francis Upritchard. A total of 288 colour reproductions of her idiosyncratic sculptures, ceramics and installations illustrate the pages; from sloths, ritualistic artefacts and talismans, as well as recent life-size freestanding, technicolour figures.
