The Photography Studies College (PSC) will celebrate the launch of this year’s Advanced Diploma Art Major Graduate Exhibition, ‘Fresh 15’, on Friday 20 November, 6-8pm at the Yarra Sculpture Gallery, Abbotsford.

Ebony Finck

‘Fresh 15’ showcases the artistic and photographic talents of the 13 graduates majoring in Advanced Diploma Art. These creative and passionate students come from diverse backgrounds; ‘we’re all ages, some of us local, some international, studying part-time and full-time – and we share a love for using photography to create new visual art’.

Experiences of memory, loss and recall and the ethereal state of dreamscape are strong themes in this exhibition – as are contemplations on city and natural environments, urban legends and depictions of time. These themes are explored in strikingly different ways via large and small-scale prints, video projection and photo-books.

One graduate, Ebony Finck, has recently had her talents recognised; receiving a Life Framer award in the ‘Human Body’ theme for this image from her series entitled Juncture.

Ebony explores mortality in this series with the recognition that as a loved one prepares to die, we are confronted with the realisation that we must look forward – and yet the past collides with the future skewing it from view. “This project is very personal to me, the inspiration being the subject, my grandfather. We share an incredible bond and I admire him greatly,” says Ebony.

Photography Studies College (PSC), Melbourne is an award-winning tertiary institution specialising in photographic education for over 40 years. At the 2015 AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPAs), PSC won Tertiary Institution of the Year award for the fifth consecutive year.
