This exhibition of new work from Alexander represents an aesthetic departure and conceptual evolution.
Now as immigrant, Alexander reimagines his customary themes around belonging afresh. Cosmic visions and the historical grand narratives of human faith and reason give way to personal displacement and the nostalgia and underlying complexities surrounding the formation of sense of place. Manifesting as dislocated landscape paintings of high-key dynamic tondo skyscapes, these new works float like portals from flying machines or as planets of the minds-eye, amid generous raw linen environs.
