Helen Wright: The Edge of Reason

Tasmanian-based artist Helen Wright takes audiences into a universe of dreams where nothing is quite what it seems in ‘The Edge of Reason’.

At the heart of Wright’s practice is a concern for the natural environment. Within her dense and kaleidoscopic images, where the built and natural worlds form a surreal alliance, Wright paints a picture of slow demise.

Her fantastical worlds propose a melding of a medieval past and a possible future, full of suggestion and intrigue, maintaining a balance of sorrow and humour, cast in a playful mix of painting, printing, sculpture and drawing. Her works are comprised of objects such as electrical fans, shopping trolleys, construction cranes and intricate clockwork.
