Hiromi Tango is an internationally recognised artist who creates large-scale installation works that evolve organically, developing complex dialogues with environment and audience.
Premised on the notion of interactivity, forging individual, social and cultural connections, the work that is being created for the Cairns Regional Gallery was developed through facilitated local community workshops in the lead-up to the final installation. The sculptural work extends floor-to-ceiling, with sprawling branches and brightly coloured tendrils that will continue to ‘grow’ throughout the exhibition. Visitors are encouraged to create vividly coloured, soft environmental elements that will be progressively incorporated into the magical rainforest and become part of the magic climbing tree.
