‘Horizon Sunshine Coast’ 10-day arts festival

There’s something big on the horizon and its making it way to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast filling the streets with arts and culture in an exciting new ten-day festival this September.

The ‘Horizon Sunshine Coast’ festival of arts and culture is a new region-wide creative collaboration that is set to entertain and inspire from 2 to 11 September with full schedule of artistic events, exhibitions, visual arts, film, street art, poetry, music, dance, new media, workshops and more.

Acting Mayor Councillor Tim Dwyer said ‘Horizon’ was created to showcase the diverse talents of our artistic community. “A cultural festival of this kind has long been discussed on the Coast and I’m proud to see it come to fruition”, Cr Dwyer said. “’Horizon’ was created to showcase our talented artistic community and provide a platform for them to share their talents with the Sunshine Coast community and visitors.”

Events, performances and activities will be held throughout the Sunshine Coast region including Nambour, Kenilworth, Coolum, Maroochydore and Eumundi. Caloundra will host the opening night on Friday 2 September with a free community event consisting of a lantern parade, art-making, film, projections, music and nourishments.

“With more events still coming on board the program is shaping up to provide a fantastic 10 days – whether you are into film, writing, dance, music or traditional art,” Cr Dwyer said.

‘Horizon’ will also provide support for a number of well-established events including the Maroochy Music and Visual Arts Festival and the Caloundra Film Festival which will feature its largest program to date. Film premieres, red carpets, director’s Q&A’s, pop-up cinema are just some of the events planned for this years film festival in Caloundra, Nambour and Maleny.
