‘Leaders’ showcases artists working across traditional, experimental and contemporary crafts, challenging traditional notions of craft practice through diverse ways of making and thinking within a contemporary content. It’s clear that more and more artists are reclaiming technique and passion for the handmade as a fundamental means to express ideas, emotions and vision. ‘Leaders’ brings together key makers who are bridging the gap.
The exhibition presents works crafted in resin and plastics, blown and slumped glass, textile construction and embellishment through embroidery and surface decoration, native woods, porcelain and wood-fired ceramics. The breadth of materials and techniques within the exhibition highlights the diverse and contemporary nature of craft.
