Lewis Miller always paints from life; the close observation of each of his subjects masterfully revealed through bold linework, vivid colour combinations and expressive brushstrokes. For Miller, the quality and handling of the paint has as much contemplative importance as the objects he is painting. The aroma of a split pomegranate becomes almost palpable for the viewer taking in the glistening daubs of thick crimson oil.
Miller’s reputation as a leading figurative and still life artist continues in this current exhibition with a selection of intimate still life paintings, portraits and nudes as well as a striking, almost life sized self-portrait painted on 54 small canvas panels.
