Marie J. Engelsvold: Moments of freedom

‘Moments of freedom’ is the outcome of a serendipitous connection on Instagram between gallery director Aaron Fell-Fracasso and Danish artist Marie J. Engelsvold that resulted in a meeting in Copenhagen in 2015.

Engelsvold works with the same ‘subject’ producing drawings, collages and sculpture. “I like to transform the flatness of the drawings into a three-dimensional physical form – in that way it becomes more alive and a kind of being in its own right,” says Engelsvold. Exploring different materials such as paper, textile, wood, yarn, foam, rubber, household paint, acrylic paint and ink, Engelsvold creates works that encompass humour and playfulness in her work process, “the composition and selection of materials helps to emphasise the unpretentious, quirky and absurd.”
