MASKING THE FACE OF HIV/AIDS

Art has always been fascinated with the symbolism of masks. Masks serve multiple cultural functions, all of which contribute in expressing human emotions and the many messages they personify. Discrimination and stigma is one of the major issues that people living with HIV/AIDS face every day. This ‘emotional mask’ worn to disguise their illness is the focus for the World AIDS Day photographic cxhibition ‘MASKING THE FACE OF HIV/AIDS’.

In July 2014, Melbourne hosted the 20th International AIDS Conference. As part of the Cultural Arts Program, ‘Follow Us Events’ staged an interactive photo booth activity in the Global Village and have culminated in this curated photographic exhibition celebrating World AIDS Day.
