As this work of fiction unfolds, it parallels the real and arduous 750 hours Marina Abramovic spent at MoMA in New York for her performance The Artist is Present, 2010, as well as reflects on her rich career and personal life. Holding a mirror to the artist’s pursuit of connection especially in the face of fear or discomfort the characters in the novel observe the now infamous performance and in turn reflect on their own challenges in life and, that we may perceive how ‘Artists run their fingers over the fabric of eternity’. It is a compelling read for art lovers interested in inner and inter-personal relationships. Heather Rose was the inaugural Writer in Residence at MONA, Hobart, where she did much of the research for the book.
