Resistance

‘Resistance’ is a presentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and world views about contemporary Indigenous life.

The exhibition features Indigenous knowledge systems and commentary on Indigenous experiences, histories, cultures and people. It highlights the importance of ‘voice’ to combat voicelessness and invisibility – which are regularly experienced by Indigenous peoples and minorities around the world.

‘Resistance’ includes 45 works across a mix of mediums, including large-scale paintings and filmic works, by Shane Pickett, Julie Dowling, Laurel Nannup, Phyllis Thomas, Michael Cook, Christian Thompson and Sandra Hill. Together these artists broadly touch on some of the key themes in contemporary Indigenous art and life.
