Robyn Sweaney draws inspiration from her local rural environment to create works that explore notions of identity and sense of place in a suburban setting.
In ‘Fade to blue’, Sweaney continues this theme through her depictions of beach houses set amid established seashore neighbourhoods, as well as new coastal developments. Reflecting a distinct aesthetic, compositions comprise trees, front lawns, fences, rental signs and garbage bins. With fluid brushstrokes and geometric purity of well-defined shapes, attention is focused directly on the subject – often painted in varying shades of blue.
“There’s a lot of blue”, says Sweaney. “These paintings are about times past and the promise of a slowing down in the future; the anticipation, a longing, sunlight and shadows, clear skies and crisp, fresh mornings – a time for contemplation.”
