Suzie Idiens is a reductive abstract artist whose work investigates formal concerns of colour, form, finish and spatial composition while addressing the subjective nature of perception.
In ‘Neutral Ground’ her continued focus on simplifying form and restricting the use of colour results in a group of grey minimalist monochrome wall-mounted objects. Each object is seamless, like that of an industrially fabricated form. The highly reflective finishes acts as an interface mirroring their surroundings, making the observer aware of their own presence. Calling into question the concept of neutrality, the nuances of these grey tones shift constantly depending on the light. This ambiguity offers the opportunity to contemplate our physical, conscious and subconscious perceptions and preconceptions.
