Now the largest event of its kind in Australia, ‘Vivid Sydney’, an 18-day festival of light, music and idea, features many of the world’s most important creative industry forums, a mesmerising free public exhibition of outdoor lighting sculptures and installations, and a cutting-edge contemporary music program.

Vivid Light’ has transformed Sydney into a wonderland of ‘light art’ sculptures, innovative light installations and grand-scale projections. It has engaged lighting artists, designers and manufacturers from around Australia and the world to illuminate, interpret and transform Sydney’s urban spaces through their creative vision.

For the first time, Sydney’s internationally acclaimed urban village Central Park becomes a part of Vivid Sydney in 2015. Complementing existing onsite public artworks, Vivid Sydney brings a unique beat to the new heart of ‘downtown’ Sydney with Streets Ahead, a spectacular light show accompanied by an original music score. Celebrated indigenous artist, Reko Rennie, combines the iconography of his Aboriginal heritage with stylistic elements of graffiti to pay respect to Aboriginal culture in a modern context, while the distinctive works of multidisciplinary artist Beastman breathe movement and growth into a futuristic world of new life, hope and survival.

Vivid Sydney will transform the busy food and retail hub of Chatswood into a flowing light walk journey with mesmerising immersive light experiences. Chatswood Mall becomes an immersive, light-filled ‘river’ where glowing creatures are brought to life with lighting (by 32 Hundred Lighting), and projections. LED technology will create cascading waves of colour before materialization of an animated aquarium.

Explore the magical Vivid Light Walk starting at the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House with spectacular huge Siamese fighting fish in Splendens. Head along East Circular Quay and you’ll be drawn to a bright red, pulsating heart, The Heart of the City. Walk into a new-look world of Light Origami at the AMP Forecourt, while the Lucky Country bounces to life in the Museum of Sydney’s floating glass cube. Along the harbour foreshore, a large ornate ‘eye’ watches the city from on high; change the mood of Geometric Eye from happy to alert, sparkling to excited.

Circular Quay buzzes with activity during Vivid Sydney. Once again, this harbourside precinct is the setting for one of the most thrilling spectacles of Vivid 2015. In an Australian-first presented by Oracle–Liquid, the Vivid Laser-Fountain Water Theatre combines computer-controlled fountain jets and spirals, rainbow lasers and dancing flames, choreographed together in a glorious symphony of light and music to a soundtrack devised by Sydney’s electric music gurus, The Presets.

This is only a portion of what ‘Vivid Light’ has on display and only a slice of what Vivid Sydney has to offer.
