RMIT researcher Dr Irene Barberis is travelling through Europe presenting her 36-metre ‘Tapestry of Light: Intersections of Illumination’, an interpretation of the 14th century Anger Apocalypse Tapestry (1377-1382) by Jean Bondol and Nicholas Bataille currently held on display at the Château d’Angers castle in France. Compelled by the complexity and poetry of her experience with the original piece, Barberis embarked on a large-scale project to re-imagine the tapestry using nanoparticle technology. Constructed glowing fibres and threads of natural, ultraviolet and phosphorous light have composed an enthralling radiant work now on view at St Michael and St Gudula Cathedral, Brussels until 15 June. Also touring to museums and cathedrals in Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States, and at Canterbury Cathedral, United Kingdom in October.
