The Daylesford Macedon Ranges Open Studios program is designed to showcase the extraordinary artists working in the beautiful Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region in central Victoria. This November, thirty artists will open their studio doors for six days, giving the public an opportunity to go ‘behind the scenes’ of the creative process, meet the artists in their creative spaces and learn about their work and inspiration.

Creative Producer Jill Rivers said, “The selected artists span highly divergent fields of practice from painting, sculpture and textiles to handcrafted and art photography, and mosaics; what they share is a strong connection to the beautiful region they have chosen to live and work in. The Daylesford Macedon Ranges region has developed iconic status for its day-visit distance from Melbourne and concentration of fine foods, wine and spas. It’s other cultural riches – the wonderful painters, sculptors, and other artists, have largely remained out of the public eye. DMROS is “Open Sesame” – unlocking the doors of their studios and treasures within.”

Participating artists include sculptor and print maker, Tim Jones, whose work is in the British Museum collection; metal sculptor Russell Petherbridge; textile artist Colleen Weste; whimsical printmaker Lawrence Finn; handcraft photographer Ellie Young Gold Street Studios; renowned sculptors Brigit Heller and Matthew Harding; painter Catherine Abel; and creative duo Padma & Ashika Ostapkowicz, Embrace Art Studio.

The DMROS region covers 180km and includes two large rural shires allowing the studios to range in style and setting from small niches to large acres of bushland. The thirty selected studios will form an ‘art trail’, with plenty of food and wine stops along the way allowing its visitors to revel in the well being wrought by a day in the country and connection with arts and culture.

The artists of the Daylesford and Macedon Ranges have contributed to the community by constantly being at the forefront of new concepts and ideas, new ways of thinking and new ways of responding to political, philosophical, spiritual, social, humanitarian, scientific, geological, and other global issues. ‘DMROS 2014’ offers art lovers a chance to discuss such topics as well as the artists’ motivation and influences.

The hub of the trail and DMROS group exhibition showcasing the work of each of the participating artists will be St Paul’s Anglican Church Hall, 26 Yaldwin Street, Kyneton.

Volunteer Supporters of the program will drive parties of 10 people round the studios to meet the artists, discover their creative practices and explore their beautiful rural settings. A small bus will tour the outer studios of the region daily from Kyneton and Daylesford this year. Pick up points will be the hub of the program – the Group Exhibition of DMROS Participating Artists at St Paul’s Anglican Church Hall, 26 Yaldwin Street, Kyneton and Daylesford Regional Visitor Centre,  98 Vincent Street, Daylesford, 10 am and 1.30 pm. Bookings are essential. Contact Brad Hooper: 0418 105 954, bvh1@bigpond.net.au
